A man has been re-arrested following an attack at Newton Community Hospital in Merseyside where five people were injured. The suspect, a 20-year-old man, was initially arrested on suspicion of multiple offenses including wounding and affray.
Following his initial arrest, the man was detained under the Mental Health Act. However, he was later discharged from the hospital. Merseyside Police subsequently re-arrested him on suspicion of attempted wounding, assault, possessing an offensive weapon, and cannabis possession, among other charges. He is currently in police custody.
Det Insp James Rotheram stated that investigations, including a search that uncovered cannabis, continued after the initial arrest. He expressed hope that this development reassures the local community, emphasizing the seriousness with which the incident is being treated and that inquiries are ongoing.
