8 Nov
Summary
- Philippine police apologized to Thomas Markle Jr. for earlier suspicions.
- Concerns arose from reports of underage girls and ring lights at his home.
- His father, Thomas Markle Sr., faces U.S. charges for child sexual abuse material.

Philippine police have reportedly issued an apology to Thomas Markle Jr., the half-brother of Meghan Markle, after he was briefly considered a person of interest. Investigators spoke with his fiancée and others close to the couple before resolving the matter, with senior police officials allegedly contacting Thomas Jr. directly to acknowledge the misunderstanding. Earlier, Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla had identified Thomas Jr. as a person of interest, stating that his possible involvement in related activities was being examined, though he was not treated as a suspect.
Suspicion arose from witness claims about underage girls visiting Thomas Jr.'s property and the use of ring lights, sparking an investigation. His fiancée, Rose Ann Gabuya, explained the lights were for creating TikTok content and that her younger relatives frequently visited the home for family gatherings and dance videos. Thomas Jr. had been cooperating with authorities for weeks regarding allegations against his father, Thomas Markle Sr.
The developments concerning Thomas Jr. occurred as his father, Thomas Markle Sr., 82, was arrested in Florida on November 6 and charged with possessing child sexual abuse material. Federal authorities searched storage units linked to him, reportedly finding numerous items containing suspected child sexual abuse material, including slides, film negatives, and books. Some alleged photos showed an adult male identified as Thomas Sr. with underage girls. Thomas Sr. denies the allegations and has not been convicted.
This situation has again drawn public attention to the estranged relationship between Meghan Markle and her father and half-brother. Thomas Jr. had previously sided with their father but later apologized to Meghan, stating he viewed their family conflict differently after discovering disturbing material among his father's belongings. Meghan has described the allegations against her father as deeply disturbing, having been informed of troubling claims years earlier.
