Meat Trucks Hid $30M Cash Haul

Four people have been charged with financial crimes, including fraud, following an investigation into the alleged use of meat freight trucks to transport millions of dollars between Queensland and New South Wales over nearly a decade.

Business owners and representatives in the pork industry are accused of deliberately omitting or destroying records for sales totaling approximately $10 million between 2017 and 2026. This alleged undeclared income was reportedly retained for personal use.

Investigators also claim that over $30 million in cash was transported from NSW to Queensland during this period, with substantial sums concealed within freight vehicles. Two individuals in Queensland face additional accusations of relabeling frozen meat products, though this has not raised food safety concerns.

The operation, named "Operation Ragamuffin," was a collaborative effort between Queensland's Crime and Corruption Commission and the New South Wales Police Force's Anti-Money Laundering Unit. Seizures included over $3 million in cash and two vehicles, with suspected proceeds of crime assets exceeding $25 million.

Charges laid in Queensland include fraudulently destroying records and making false declarations, with court appearances scheduled for September. New South Wales police have charged two individuals with destroying or concealing accounting records. One of these individuals faces further charges related to child and animal abuse material.
