Summary

- The actor was caught driving without a valid license twice in April 2024.
- He faces a €4,000 fine and a one-year driving ban.

Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts has been sentenced to six months in prison for repeated driving violations. The court handed down the sentence in absentia after Schoenaerts failed to appear, following two separate incidents in April 2024 where he was stopped by police while driving a motorcycle without a valid license.
In addition to the prison term, Schoenaerts was fined €4,000 and given a one-year driving ban. He will need to pass theoretical and practical driving tests, along with medical and psychological assessments, before he is eligible to drive again. Despite the sentence, court officials indicated that the likelihood of the actor actually serving jail time is minimal, and he has the option to appeal the ruling.
This conviction marks at least the 11th time Schoenaerts has reportedly been found guilty of driving offenses. A court spokesperson cited the need for a strict signal to prevent further offenses, given previous measures have failed. Separately, it was revealed he was stopped on November 21st, where he refused a breath test and acted aggressively.
