Federal prosecutors have presented evidence, including photos from security footage, alleging that former Michigan co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss accessed team offices before hacking into college students' personal accounts. The FBI affidavit shows Weiss entering football facilities, including quarterback and tight end meeting rooms, prior to the alleged incidents.
Weiss was indicted on March 20 and faces accusations of stealing private photos and videos from over 3,300 student athletes, many of whom are women, from more than 100 universities. This evidence emerged as Weiss's legal team filed motions attempting to dismiss the 14 counts of unauthorized access and 10 counts of aggravated identity theft.
The defense has questioned the constitutionality of warrants obtained by the University of Michigan Police Department and subsequent FBI discoveries. However, prosecutors argue Weiss is contesting the evidence's discovery method rather than the charges themselves. Weiss also faces a civil lawsuit from over 70 women alleging similar privacy breaches.
