Authorities Bust Massive Adulterated Ghee Racket in Delhi-NCR

On October 8, 2025, the Delhi Police conducted a series of raids and seized over 2,600 litres of adulterated ghee in the city and nearby Haryana. The police acted on a tip-off and uncovered a large-scale operation where the suspects were allegedly manufacturing and selling counterfeit ghee.

The raids led to the arrest of two alleged manufacturers, Rakesh Garg and Mukesh. Garg's godown in northwest Delhi's Budh Vihar contained 2,241 litres of the spurious ghee, while another 410 litres were recovered from Mukesh's facility in Jind, Haryana. The Jind unit has been sealed, and the suspects have been booked at the Crime Branch Police Station.

According to the authorities, the accused were mixing low-quality 'vanaspati ghee' and refined oil to mimic pure ghee, using chemical-based flavouring agents, synthetic colours, and other unsafe substances. The adulterated product was then packaged in containers of reputed brands and sold to local distributors, dairies, and retail outlets at wholesale rates.

The police disclosed that the cost of producing the adulterated ghee was around Rs 200 per litre, while the suspects were selling it for approximately Rs 350 to wholesalers. The Food Safety Department of the Delhi government was involved in the raids.
