30 Aug
Summary
- Owners must forgive all tenant debt and pay $500 to each resident.
- A $100,000 fund will assist Peter & Paul Community Services with relocation.
- The hotel will close on September 1 for renovations due to safety violations.

The troubled Mark Twain Hotel is set to close its doors next week as its owners have agreed to a settlement with the Missouri Attorney General. Announced on Thursday, the agreement aims to provide relief to the roughly 160 individuals who will be displaced by the closure.
Property owners Anchor Point Hotel LLC and John Campo Jr. must forgive all tenant debt and will pay each displaced resident $500. Additionally, $100,000 will be provided to Peter & Paul Community Services to assist with tenant relocation efforts. The settlement also requires the owners to maintain security at the vacant property during redevelopment.
The action follows a demand from Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway for a plan to address widespread safety, health, and code violations, which she deemed a public nuisance. The hotel's closure is scheduled for September 1, after which renovations are expected to commence.
