A woman was arrested on Tuesday, August 25, after a confrontation near Mar-a-Lago where her dog bit a police officer and was fatally shot. Alexa Rae Scharf, 29, allegedly entered a closed Secret Service checkpoint in Palm Beach.
Scharf reportedly turned on a sprinkler system before getting back into her vehicle and driving toward Secret Service Agent McGear. She then drove to a property, knocking down an entrance gate, and continued to evade officers, driving toward Palm Beach Police Captain Watson and another officer.
After a pursuit, officers approached Scharf's vehicle, broke the windows, and removed her. Police stated that Scharf's pit bull then charged and bit an officer. An officer then shot the dog, which later died despite veterinary attempts to save it.
Scharf faces charges including two counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, and resisting an officer without violence.
