Mapusa Woman Extorted for Rs 40 Lakh After Sexual Assault

On October 20th, 2025, the Fatorda police in Goa arrested Raj Prashant Thakur in Pune, Maharashtra, and brought him to Goa on charges of sexually assaulting a young woman from Mapusa. The accused had allegedly lured the victim with promises of a lucrative job and recorded a video during the assault. He then used the footage to blackmail the victim, extorting a total of Rs 40 lakh from her by threatening to release the video.

According to the complaint, the victim, who works in the events industry, was called to Margao under false pretenses. There, the accused initially made her undress and recorded a video, claiming it was part of the job requirements. He later began blackmailing her with the video, coercing her into recruiting other young girls for similar work and collecting Rs 7,500 as fees from each "recruit". When the victim was unable to bring more women, the accused began demanding money from her directly.

The police have also filed charges against three others - Anthony D'Souza, Siddharth Kambli, and Jyoti Nagvekar - in connection with the case. Social activist Pratima Coutinho recently brought the case to light. Additionally, two other complaints of a similar nature have been lodged against the accused at different police stations in North Goa.
