Man Charged in Woman's Tragic Death
17 Apr
Summary
- A 27-year-old man faces manslaughter charges in a woman's death.
- The victim, Hiba Elrhazi, died from upper body injuries.
- This incident is suspected to be another case of intimate partner violence.
A 27-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of Hiba Elrhazi on Wednesday afternoon. Alexandre Karim Amaury Restau is accused of causing Elrhazi's death through the use of a firearm, though the charge suggests he did not intend to kill her.
Radio-Canada sources indicate this homicide may be another instance of intimate partner violence. Restau allegedly surrendered to provincial police at the Montreal airport, confessing to killing his partner. This case adds to a concerning trend in Quebec, where at least seven other women have died in suspected intimate partner violence cases this year.
Montreal police responded to a wellness check request at a home on Simpson Street around 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers discovered Elrhazi with upper body injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics, she was declared dead at the scene. If Elrhazi's death is officially linked to conjugal violence, it would mark the ninth such case in Quebec this year.
