Paul Solway, 57, pleaded guilty to six counts of damaging property with intent to endanger life at Derby Crown Court. Emergency services rescued Solway and his dog from the rubble of his home on Eden Street. The blast was so powerful that it was likened to an earthquake, causing shockwaves felt throughout the neighborhood.
Solway suffered severe burns and was hospitalized for weeks. His dog, however, made a full recovery. Detectives determined the explosion was intentional, stemming from Solway's interference with the gas supply. He claimed to have no memory of the event.
