In Mangaluru, a unified approach is being spearheaded by Tahsildar T Ramesh Babu to combat child marriages and violations under the Pocso Act. He has mandated that all government departments, not solely law enforcement, must collaborate effectively on these sensitive cases. This directive aims to enhance the protection of children and vulnerable individuals within the taluk.
The tahsildar's office reviewed multiple schemes and committees focused on child welfare and protection. Among these were initiatives addressing drug abuse, domestic violence, and trafficking. Notably, 16 cases related to domestic violence were registered between April and October of this year, highlighting the persistent need for such interventions.
Further efforts include promoting the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign and ensuring the welfare of persons with disabilities. As of the latest reports, 9,270 Unique Disability ID cards have been distributed, and applications for assistive devices are being processed, demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to social welfare.
