Mangaluru City police have intensified their crackdown on drug peddling, reporting 12 cases under the NDPS Act and apprehending 25 individuals between November 30 and December 13. Significant seizures include 685.6 grams of MDMA and 1.5 kilograms of ganja. The implementation of a QR code-based anonymous reporting system has yielded encouraging results, with police crediting it for several recent arrests that have disrupted drug networks.
This year, authorities have registered 107 drug peddling cases and 562 drug consumption cases, leading to numerous arrests. Large quantities of various narcotics, including ganja, MDMA, and charas, have been confiscated. To address rising drug abuse among students, police have initiated random drug testing in around 100 educational institutions, identifying 20 students who tested positive in the initial phase.
