On October 9, 2025, a cab driver in Mangaluru, Karnataka filed a police complaint alleging that he was subjected to communal abuse by three passengers from Kerala. According to the complaint, the three individuals - Santhosh Abraham, Jayakrishnan, and Vimal - booked a cab through an app-based service and were picked up from Bejai New Road in Mangaluru.
When the cab driver, Ahmed Shafiq, contacted them to confirm the pickup location, the passengers allegedly spoke to him in Hindi, using derogatory language and calling him a "Muslim extremist" and "terrorist." They also reportedly shouted the same slurs in Hindi and abused his mother in Malayalam.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case at the Urwa police station under Sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke) and 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code. Two persons, including actor Jayakrishnan, have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident, which is currently under investigation.
