A murder trial is underway for Michael Thompson, 55, accused of raping and murdering his wife, Kimberley Thompson, 43. He is also charged with perverting the course of justice. Prosecutors allege that after raping and suffocating Ms. Thompson at their Northampton home on August 9th of last year, he staged a suicide scene.
Thompson claimed he found his separated wife unresponsive, surrounded by alcohol and medication. However, a post-mortem examination found no alcohol and only minimal levels of other substances. The prosecution stated Ms. Thompson had been subjected to coercive and controlling behavior by her husband during their marriage.
She was reportedly planning to leave him, having a new boyfriend and seeking approximately £65,000 in their divorce settlement. The defense denies all charges, including those related to actions taken to conceal the alleged crimes, such as writing fake social media posts. The trial continues.
