A violent dispute over home thermostat settings culminated in a crossbow attack on Long Island, prosecutors allege. Samy Sedhom, 21, of Lawrence, has been indicted on charges including attempted murder and assault.
According to the Nassau County District Attorney's Office, Sedhom allegedly planned the attack for several weeks, beginning in December 2025. On February 13, he reportedly waited for his sister to return from the gym and then shot her in the head with a crossbow as she entered the garage. The attack caused serious bleeding and injuries to her ear, cheek, and face.
The sister was rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery to stop bleeding and repair a significant facial laceration. Prosecutors stated Sedhom attempted to dispose of the crossbow after the attack, but police later recovered the weapon. Investigators also found a sword and a crossbow box in his bedroom. Sedhom was arrested the following day, February 14.
At his arraignment on April 2, Sedhom pleaded not guilty. His defense attorney claims Sedhom only intended to scare his sister and not cause harm. If convicted, Sedhom faces up to 25 years in prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.
