Hayward Jenkins, 38, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the death of his mother, Cheryl Jenkins, 66. The incident occurred on February 24, 2026, when officers responded to a call at a Milwaukee residence. Cheryl was found deceased at the scene with blunt force injuries, ruled by the Medical Examiner's Office as the cause of death.
According to a criminal complaint, Jenkins arrived at his mother's home the evening before. An argument ensued between mother and son over "silver coins, money," and Jenkins alleged his mother acted aggressively towards him with scissors. He confessed to police that he "flipped out" and used a baseball bat to strike her multiple times while she was seated.
Jenkins fled the scene but was apprehended later that day at a casino. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for March 10, 2026. The victim's fiancé reported finding Cheryl deceased in the guest room and immediately called 911.
