A North Carolina man, Stephon Dubose, has admitted to killing his girlfriend, Angela Risi, and wounding her roommate in October 2023. Dubose pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted murder on January 21, 2026. The court records indicate he will serve consecutive sentences totaling 35 to 44 years.

Authorities reported that Dubose broke into the women's home after Risi rejected his desire for an exclusive relationship. He pursued Risi, firing 11 shots and hitting her eight times. He also shot her roommate three times before fleeing.
