- Handwritten threats to Downing Street and House of Commons discovered.

An "Aladdin's cave" of weapons was discovered at the home of Shaun Powell, 43, leading to his imprisonment. Police initially arrested Powell for breaching a sex offender order. A subsequent search of his property in Glasney Place, Penryn, revealed a disturbing arsenal.
Among the items found were improvised explosive devices and Molotov cocktails. Authorities also uncovered handwritten notes containing threats directed at 10 Downing Street and the House of Commons. Additional items like balaclavas, masks, cables, and ropes were seized.
Powell pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon and a noxious liquid. He was sentenced to 16 months in jail by Truro Crown Court. This was not Powell's first offense, as he has prior convictions for possessing weapons, including explosives, noxious liquids, and blades.
Judge James Adkin expressed concern that Powell had not been on authorities' radar but assured that he would be now. Detective Constable Seb Angove of Devon and Cornwall Police highlighted the potential for death or serious harm if the seized items were used. He also noted the large-scale emergency response and considerable disruption caused by Powell's actions.
