Summary
- Man jailed six years for providing machete to a teen.
- Victims attacked with a weapon in a drawstring bag.
- The attacker had a history of violence and addiction.

A man identified as Aaron Thistlethwaite, aged 36, received a six-year prison sentence for his role in an assault that occurred on the evening of August 25, last year. He provided a 16-year-old with a weapon and instructed him to attack a couple walking in the Hardwick area of Stockton.
The victims, who had attempted to avoid Thistlethwaite, were subsequently struck on the head. Although the weapon, believed to be a machete, was not removed from its bag, it inflicted injuries including bone-deep cuts. Judge Francis Laird KC noted the fortunate outcome that the injuries were not more severe.
Thistlethwaite, a heroin and crack cocaine addict with prior convictions for violence and weapon possession, was found guilty of intentional wounding for assisting and encouraging the youth's actions. The 16-year-old admitted to the attack and was detained for four years. Both received an additional three years on extended license.
