Anwarul Islam, formerly of Ringmer, East Sussex, has been jailed for nine years after being convicted of rape and sexual assault. The offences occurred more than three years ago in a pub toilet in Elmswell, Suffolk, during a first date.
Islam was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court, receiving nine years for rape and six years for sexual assault, to be served concurrently. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register and given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.
During the proceedings, the victim shared her profound trauma, stating she had initially trusted Islam. Police commended her bravery, highlighting that Islam refused to accept responsibility, thereby forcing the victim to relive the harrowing experience in court.
