A 30-year-old man named MK Amit was fatally attacked in Honnali town on Tuesday night, October 12, 2026. The assault, reportedly carried out with machetes and a knife, occurred in front of his mother, Nagarathna, 52. Amit succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Shivamogga early on Wednesday, October 13, 2026.
According to the complaint filed by his mother, the incident stemmed from an old enmity involving a dispute with a local resident named Ganesh. Nagarathna alleged that Ganesh harbored a grudge against her son. The attack allegedly took place around 11:30 PM on Tuesday night, after Amit and his mother attended a religious discourse at the Banni Mahakali Temple.
The assailants reportedly used chili powder to disorient the victims before launching the attack. Amit sustained severe injuries, including a machete wound to the head and a stab wound to his upper arm. Nagarathna’s cries for help drew the attention of devotees, but the attackers fled the scene in a car.
Honnali police have registered a case against Ganesh, Chandru, Sachin, Akash, Sandeep, Suhas, and others, and an investigation is underway to apprehend the culprits.
