A Cuddalore court has delivered a life sentence to a 44-year-old man convicted of murdering his wife. The Mahila court judge also imposed a seven-year rigorous imprisonment term for attempting to destroy evidence, with both sentences to run concurrently.
The tragic incident unfolded on January 25, 2016, when the convicted driver, P Premananth, confronted his wife, P Dhanalakshmi, a nurse. He questioned her for returning home late. When she did not respond to his queries, he attacked her, ultimately strangling her with his bare hands.
Premananth then attempted to conceal the crime by staging it as a suicide. However, preliminary investigations by Vadalur police, bolstered by postmortem reports, revealed the truth. During sustained interrogation, the driver confessed to the murder and his subsequent actions to tamper with the evidence.
