Summary
- Cordell Goosby found not guilty by reason of insanity.
- He killed a pregnant woman and her unborn baby.
- Goosby will be committed to a psychiatric hospital.

Cordell Goosby, accused in the fatal shooting of Eina Kwon and her unborn child, has been found not guilty by reason of insanity. Kwon, eight months pregnant, was killed in June 2023 during a random attack in Seattle while on her way to work with her husband, Evan Sung Kwon, who was also injured.
Goosby admitted to the shootings but argued he was legally insane at the time. Both a defense expert and an independent prosecutor-hired expert agreed with this assessment. As a result, he will not face criminal responsibility for the attack.
The ruling means Goosby will be committed to the custody of the state Department of Social and Health Services for treatment at a psychiatric hospital. Officials stated he would not be released immediately and that any future release would undergo rigorous scrutiny.
Prosecutors noted that a homicide charge cannot be applied to an unborn child unless born alive, and there was insufficient evidence to pursue manslaughter. The court retains full control over any potential future release of Goosby.
