In Coffs Harbour, NSW, a 78-year-old man has been charged after allegedly hitting two boys, aged 11 and 12, with his car. The incident occurred on Saturday night around 8:30 PM when the children played 'ding dong ditch' at the man's home. The man reportedly pursued the boys on their e-bikes in his vehicle, mounting a gutter and crashing into them.
CCTV footage captured the moment the man's car struck the boys, dragging them several metres before he reversed. A witness reported the children were dragged for 15 to 20 metres. The boys were taken to the hospital for minor injuries and have since been discharged. The man was arrested at his home and charged with predatory driving and knowingly driving a vehicle in a manner that menaces others. He appeared in court on Sunday and was granted conditional bail.
This incident follows a similar case just weeks prior, where a 57-year-old man was charged for allegedly using his ute to chase and strike two 12-year-old boys on e-bikes in Mildura. Those boys sustained serious injuries.
