A 28-year-old man named Venkatesan, a resident of Nesapakkam, MGR Nagar, died on Tuesday morning, a day after being detained by MGR Nagar police. He had been apprehended for causing a disturbance near a TASMAC outlet. During questioning at the station, Venkatesan reportedly used abusive language towards police personnel. His parents were summoned, and he was subsequently released to their care on Monday after providing an undertaking.
Venkatesan's father, Rajendran, discovered him unconscious the next morning and rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. While the family asserts that Venkatesan died as a result of alleged police assault, authorities have refuted these claims. Police sources indicate that Venkatesan suffered from health problems associated with long-term alcohol addiction. An inquiry has been ordered by senior police officials to investigate the circumstances of his death.
