Man faces mental health detention after park child abduction attempt

Moynul Janu, 34, has been ordered into ongoing detention at a mental health facility following two attempted child abduction incidents. On July 3, 2025, Janu approached children at a free water park in Cardiff's Victoria Park. He touched a child and attempted to take hold of both children, prompting intervention from their mothers. Janu admitted to the attempted kidnap charge at a previous hearing. He claimed he was homeless and looking for a job, stating he had family in Bangladesh.

The day after the park incident, Janu attempted to enter a nursery in Bridgend county. He pushed past staff and tried to access a locked area containing 17 children, causing the nursery to implement lockdown procedures. Janu remained on the premises for approximately 15 minutes before leaving and being arrested nearby. The court heard victim impact statements from the children's mothers, detailing the severe emotional distress and fear caused by the incidents.
