- Couple traveled from New Jersey to Los Angeles for a holiday trip in December 2022.
- Evidence included GPS data and testimony about the defendant's possessive nature.

Luis Antonio Gomes Akay, 39, was found guilty by a jury of murdering his 22-year-old girlfriend, Anna Laura Costa Porsborg, a U.S. Army reservist. The couple had traveled from New Jersey to Los Angeles in December 2022. After an argument at their El Segundo hotel on December 27, 2022, Porsborg was last seen. Two days later, Gomes Akay was observed moving an overfilled suitcase from the hotel.
GPS and cell phone data placed Gomes Akay in Angeles National Forest for approximately one hour before he returned to the hotel and reported Porsborg missing. Prosecutors presented evidence of the defendant's controlling and jealous behavior. Witnesses from Brazil testified about a previous girlfriend who also disappeared after ending their relationship, a case where a body was never recovered.
Gomes Akay, who reportedly favored the phrase "no body, no crime," faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for late April. District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that "no body" cases are particularly challenging due to their reliance on circumstantial evidence, emphasizing the jury's delivery of justice.
