A man has been brought before Birmingham Crown Court facing serious charges, including a sex attack and religiously aggravated assault on a Sikh woman. The alleged incident took place in the Park Hall area of Walsall on October 25.
John Ashby, 32, is also accused of strangulation and the robbery of jewelry and a mobile phone. He appeared via video link from HMP Birmingham and spoke only to confirm his name. Ashby, who is of no fixed address, did not enter any pleas during the hearing.
The judge granted an application for Ashby not to be arraigned until a later date. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear again at Birmingham Crown Court on February 2.
