Standoff Ends: Suspect in Costume Charged with Murder

A seven-hour standoff concluded with the arrest of a 39-year-old man, Robert Simmons, who has been charged with murder. The incident occurred at the Hermosa Beach home of 92-year-old Demetrius Doukoullos, a well-known local developer. Authorities were alerted by the victim's realtor who had not heard from him in about a week.

Upon entering the residence, police found Simmons, who then barricaded himself. The standoff ended when Simmons emerged wearing a suit, tie, and fedora, identifying himself falsely. The connection between Simmons and Doukoullos, or a motive for the crime, is currently unknown. The victim's cause of death is pending further tests, and Simmons is scheduled for arraignment.
