Juan Delgado, 42, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Krista Hunt, 37. Hunt was reported missing by her mother on February 1, having last been seen on January 25 near Concrete, Washington. Authorities searched for weeks before identifying Hunt's remains, discovered in the Skagit River.
Investigators found evidence, including hair and blood, in Delgado's vehicle. Hunt's mother revealed a history of severe abuse, recounting a hospital visit where Hunt presented with a broken leg, bruises, and signs of strangulation, with doctors warning of further danger.
Delgado, who was already in custody on charges including possession of explosive devices and firearm offenses, denied hearing from Hunt for five days when initially questioned on February 1. He later shot himself at a bar on February 3, reportedly stating he missed Hunt.
On March 18, the Skagit County Coroner confirmed the identity of the remains as Hunt. The coroner's report detailed significant injuries, including a broken neck, jaw, and ribs. Delgado's bond has been raised to $1 million as he remains in custody.
