Summary

A domestic dispute escalated dramatically in Maryland when a man allegedly set his own home on fire, with his estranged wife inside. Michael Weisgerber, 59, was arrested and charged after authorities responded to a disturbance call at his Sykesville residence. While officers were en route, the situation worsened as the female occupant reported Weisgerber was preparing to set the house ablaze.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found the home engulfed in flames. Weisgerber, who was found outside the burning structure, reportedly confessed to intentionally igniting the fire. Court documents indicate an argument preceded the incident, after which Weisgerber allegedly locked his wife out before dousing the home in gasoline and setting it alight, resulting in an explosion and half the property being destroyed.
Weisgerber sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital before being taken into custody. He has been charged with reckless endangerment and arson and waived his right to bail. He reportedly told investigators he did not intend to harm his wife during the incident.
