On Wednesday, June 3, a video surfaced showing Steven Dana, 70, of Hopkinton, assaulting a 21-year-old Milford man at a boat ramp on Lake Maspenock. The footage depicts Dana arguing with the younger men, ordering them to leave the lake, which is restricted to Hopkinton residents.
Dana then confronted the victim, repeatedly saying "Let's go big boy" before slapping him and pushing his head underwater. The victim, who was on crutches due to a broken leg and had recently survived a critical medical event, warned Dana he would be sued.
Following the incident, Hopkinton Police arrested Dana, charging him with attempted murder, strangulation or suffocation, and assault and battery on a disabled person. He appeared in Framingham District Court on Thursday, June 4, and was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
During the hearing on Friday, June 5, Dana was released on $7,500 bail. Judge Michael Callahan mandated that Dana must stay away from the victim, witnesses, and Sandy Beach. Dana is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on July 13.
