A road rage incident on I-70 last week resulted in the arrest of Golden resident Rafael Jose Mateo Ruiz. He is accused of firing multiple shots at a couple's vehicle, striking and injuring a man in his 70s. The victim was driving home to Arvada with his wife on September 29th after visiting friends in Golden when the altercation occurred.
Investigators used footage from traffic cameras and license plate readers, along with cell tower data, to identify Ruiz. He was taken into custody on Thursday in Thornton. The couple's vehicle sustained five bullet impacts, with one round hitting the driver. The man's injuries are not life-threatening, and his wife was not harmed.
Ruiz faces serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder and assault. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about aggressive driving and violence on Colorado highways.
