26 Aug
Summary
- Man arrested for creating fake Instagram accounts in woman's name.
- Obscene material sent to husband and acquaintances via fake profiles.
- Harassment continued as new fake accounts were created.

A 27-year-old man was apprehended for allegedly orchestrating a campaign of cyber harassment by creating numerous fake Instagram accounts. These accounts impersonated a woman, using her name and photographs to send offensive material to her husband and other acquaintances. The accused, identified as Jeetu Kumar, persistently created new fake profiles even after earlier ones were taken down, prolonging the victim's mental distress.
Following a complaint from the woman, the Delhi Police's Cyber Station initiated an investigation. Technical analysis of Meta's registration details for the suspected Instagram accounts pointed to a mobile number registered in Kumar's name. This led to his arrest, and the mobile phone used in the offense was recovered.
Kumar reportedly knew the woman and had been following her since 2022. He allegedly aimed to defame and harass her by making the fake profiles appear as if they belonged to her and then sending pornographic content to her social circle. He has no prior criminal record, and further investigations are ongoing.
