In Pilibhit, a 23-year-old farmer named Banti Kumar was apprehended on Tuesday. He is accused of making his 18-year-old girlfriend, Pinki Devi, ingest toilet-cleaning acid. The alleged motive was to silence her after his marriage was fixed with someone else.
The disturbing event unfolded on Monday evening in Bhaugapur village. According to Pinki Devi's father, Ram Dayal, Kumar lured her to the village outskirts. He presented it as a suicide pact, but allegedly consumed the acid himself only after forcing it upon her, then fled.
A passerby discovered Devi in severe distress and alerted her family. She was initially treated at a local health center before being transferred to a state medical college hospital. Doctors confirmed she is now out of immediate danger. Her father's complaint alleges a relationship turned sinister when Kumar arranged his own marriage.
Authorities have registered a First Information Report against Banti Kumar under the section related to grievous hurt via acid. He has been taken into custody.
