Arthur Sutton, 83, has pleaded guilty to offering to supply morphine to three women, including Lily Gomes, who later died. Gomes, 27, of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, died in hospital on February 18, 2025, from morphine toxicity. She had fallen unconscious at Sutton's home in Cotswolds, Hatfield, four days after he offered her the drug.
At St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday, Sutton admitted to the charges. He was initially arrested on February 16, 2025, on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs. His sentencing is scheduled for October 9 at the same court.
Detective Constable Andreea Stanoiu-Diaconu emphasized the severe risks associated with the misuse of prescription and controlled drugs. She noted that morphine is a powerful medication requiring proper medical prescription and supervision. Lily Gomes's family remembered her as a vivacious and loving mother, vowing to keep her memory alive for her children.
