Mum's Body in Freezer: Son Admits Crimes
16 Apr
Summary
- Son admits hiding mother's body in freezer for months.
- He illegally claimed his mother's pension after her death.
- Sentencing is scheduled for June 2 following a psychiatric report.

Christopher Phillips, 60, has pleaded guilty to preventing the lawful and decent burial of his mother, Sylvia Phillips, whose body was discovered in a freezer at her Porthcawl home on February 17. The court heard that Mrs. Phillips is believed to have died in 2023, and her body remained undiscovered for an extended period.
Phillips also admitted to two counts of fraud, specifically failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions and Bridgend Council of his mother's passing. This allowed him to continue receiving her pension payments. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, but the cause of death remains undetermined pending further investigations.
During a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on April 16, Phillips entered his guilty pleas. His defense barrister requested an adjournment for a psychiatric report to be prepared. Sentencing for Phillips has been postponed until June 2, when the court will consider the findings of this report.
