A man preparing for a "post-apocalyptic scenario" has been found not guilty of intending to endanger life or cause serious injury with a homemade bomb. The jury delivered a majority verdict, with eleven out of twelve jurors voting in his favor.
Authorities discovered the device at the 38-year-old's home in Essex on March 10th, prompting the evacuation of more than 80 nearby addresses. Bomb disposal teams were involved in securing the area.
During the trial at Basildon Crown Court, the father-of-two testified that his intention was only to use the device to protect his family home in the event of a disaster.
He has previously admitted to a less severe charge of unlawfully possessing gunpowder. Sentencing for this offense is scheduled for November 19th at the same court.
