An 18-year-old suspect, Markel Lee, has entered a plea of not guilty to charges in connection with a fatal shooting at the Mall of Louisiana. The indictment, handed down by a grand jury, includes charges of second-degree murder, six counts of attempted second-degree murder, and illegal weapon use during a crime.
The shooting on April 23 tragically resulted in the death of Martha Odom, a 17-year-old high school student, and injured multiple other individuals. Authorities reported that the altercation originated from a dispute between two groups in the mall's food court.
Lee, who was 17 at the time of the incident, has surrendered to law enforcement. Detectives believe Lee's arrest will be the sole one in the case, barring evidence of others wielding weapons. His bond has been set at $1,350,000, with no changes made during his recent court appearance.
A motions hearing for Lee is scheduled for November 4.
