7 May
Summary
- Operation Free MacArthur Park targeted open-air drug market.
- 18 arrested, including major fentanyl and meth sources.
- DEA seized 18 kilograms of fentanyl worth $8-10 million.

Federal and local law enforcement agencies recently concluded "Operation Free MacArthur Park," a significant effort to combat a pervasive open-air drug market. The operation, involving over 300 personnel from the DEA and LAPD, led to the arrest of 18 individuals. Authorities believe these individuals are connected to cartel and criminal organizations, specifically targeting drug dealers involved in distributing substantial amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine within the park.
During the coordinated raids across multiple Southern California locations, including MacArthur Park, Calabasas, San Gabriel, and South L.A., agents seized 18 kilograms of fentanyl. This seizure represents an estimated street value of $8 million to $10 million, with officials suspecting ties to the Sinaloa cartel. Seven additional defendants are currently being sought by law enforcement.
The Department of Justice highlighted that "Operation Free MacArthur Park" is not an immigration initiative but a focused effort against drug trafficking. The park, described as an area with high poverty and homelessness, has been a known hub for drug users. Law enforcement aims to restore safety to the community ahead of major international events like the World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.
