Mom Admits Killing 3 Kids, Cites Mental State
8 Apr
Summary
- Mother offers to admit guilt in children's deaths.
- Defense aims to focus trial on mental health.
- Clancy faces murder charges; awaits evaluation.

Lindsay Clancy, a former Duxbury nurse, has made a significant legal offer to admit her involvement in the deaths of her three young children. This move, filed by her attorney, aims to center her upcoming trial on her mental state at the time of the tragic events in January 2023. Clancy is indicted on three counts of murder and strangulation concerning the deaths of her children, Cora, Dawson, and Callan.
The defense's strategy proposes that Clancy will formally acknowledge her actions leading to the fatalities. If a jury finds her mentally unfit to stand trial, Massachusetts law could allow for her commitment to a secure mental health facility, rather than a prison sentence. Prosecutors have not yet agreed to this proposal, having previously opposed separating the trial phases.
Clancy, who reportedly used exercise bands to strangle the children before an apparent suicide attempt, remains paralyzed from the chest down. She is currently receiving psychiatric care at Tewksbury State Hospital. Her defense team plans to argue she suffered from severe postpartum depression and was overmedicated. A court-ordered forensic mental health evaluation is scheduled between April 10 and April 12, 2026, with her trial slated for July 20, 2026.
