The M6 motorway experienced significant disruption after a high-speed police chase culminated in a vehicle driving against traffic. The incident unfolded near Lancaster between junctions 33 and 32 on Saturday, when police attempted to stop a Seat Ibiza being driven erratically on the southbound carriageway.
The driver failed to stop for officers, instead executing a U-turn and proceeding north on the southbound lanes. This dangerous maneuver necessitated the closure of the M6 for an extended period to ensure public safety. Police successfully brought the pursuit to an end using a tactical stop.
Authorities apprehended a 26-year-old man from Ashford, Kent, in connection with the event. He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. The closure caused considerable delays for other motorists, with the motorway remaining inaccessible for several hours.
