A Lyft driver in Florida has been exposed for utilizing artificial intelligence to generate fraudulent images of vehicle damage. This scam was intended to enable the driver to charge passengers unjustified cleaning fees. Bert Gor, a resident of Boca Raton, discovered the scheme when he was incorrectly charged $75 by Lyft.
The driver had submitted AI-created photographs to Lyft, depicting a fictitious mess in the backseat of his vehicle, allegedly left by Gor's daughters. However, Gor questioned the charges, as his daughters had not consumed food or drinks during their ride. One of Gor's daughters identified the images as AI-generated due to the presence of a Gemini logo.
Upon review, Lyft confirmed the images were AI-generated and apologized to Mr. Gor. The company stated that they had reimbursed the rider, uncoupled the rider and driver, and addressed the issue directly with the driver, who has now been blocked from the platform. Gor shared his experience to alert others about this type of scam.
