17 Jul
Summary
- Over 30 vehicles seized in abandoned car crackdown.
- Council invested an additional £2m in street services.
- 65 extra staff hired to tackle parking and neglect.

Luton Council has intensified its efforts against abandoned and unlicensed vehicles, successfully seizing and removing more than 30 cars. This action is part of a broader initiative funded by an additional £2 million investment in essential street services, including enhanced street cleaning, fly-tipping removal, and parking enforcement.
The council has also expanded its team by hiring 65 new front-line staff. This significant staffing increase is intended to address various urban issues, particularly the problem of vehicles obstructing pavements. Councillor Tahmina Saleem highlighted concerns that such parking practices had made parts of the town unsafe and contributed to anti-social behaviour.
Neighbourhood enforcement officers emphasized that abandoned vehicles can be linked to more serious offenses. These include the presence of drug paraphernalia, evidence of sex crimes, and association with stolen vehicles, underscoring the importance of the council's ongoing crackdown for public safety.
