In a shocking turn of events in Lonavala, Maharashtra, an 83-year-old man, Motiram Marathe, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 31-year-old grandson, Abhay Manik Marathe. The incident, which occurred on October 5 at Hotel Motiram, was initially reported as an accidental firearm discharge while Abhay was cleaning his grandfather's licensed rifle. Pune Rural Police, however, quickly uncovered discrepancies. The nature of the chest wound and lack of close-range shot indicators at Sassoon Hospital cast doubt on the accident theory. Further crime scene analysis and witness statements, including that of a waiter, revealed a heated dispute over the proposed sale of land. Motiram Marathe reportedly opposed Abhay's stance and, during the confrontation, fired the fatal shot. Evidence suggests a coordinated effort by family members to conceal the crime, including moving the body, cleaning the weapon, and removing CCTV cameras. An FIR has been registered against five individuals for attempting to destroy evidence and conceal the circumstances of the killing. Motiram Marathe has since admitted to firing the shot, claiming Abhay had threatened him. The investigation into the murder and alleged cover-up is ongoing.
