Quadruple Murder Suspect Found Mentally Unfit

Gage Pierce, a 25-year-old Livonia resident, has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial for the alleged quadruple homicide of his family. Prosecutors claim Pierce fatally shot his parents, Sterling Pierce and Holly Kimball, his brother, Tanner Pierce, and his brother's girlfriend, Navaeh Finch, on June 9. The incident occurred at the family's home in Livonia.

A report from the Center for Forensic Psychiatry concluded Pierce is incompetent but restorable, a status his attorney, Robert Mullen, agrees with. This ruling halts the legal proceedings until Pierce can assist in his defense. Pierce himself contested the report's findings, stating his confinement and interactions with other inmates have impacted his expressions.

Prolonged confinement and a perceived lack of sunlight in his jail cell were cited by Pierce as reasons for his limited expressions. He argued that descriptions of his behavior were overgeneralized and erroneous. The judge acknowledged Pierce's request for a new attorney, with a further discussion planned. Pierce's next court appearance is set for October 29.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at the Livonia residence on June 9, discovering Tanner Pierce and Finch in a bedroom, and Sterling Pierce and Holly Kimball on the backyard patio, all with multiple gunshot wounds. A dog also sustained a gunshot injury. Gage Pierce was arrested at the scene with a semi-automatic rifle. Authorities noted a contentious relationship between Pierce and his parents. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of the murder charges.
