Jury to Weigh Insanity in Triple Child Slaying

Jury selection is set to commence on Monday for the trial of Lindsay Clancy, who faces charges of murdering her three children. Clancy admits to strangling 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan in their Duxbury home in January 2023. However, she has pleaded not guilty, asserting severe postpartum mental illness and claiming she was not criminally responsible.

The defense plans to argue that Clancy was compelled by voices to kill her children and herself. This trial, expected to last six to eight weeks at Plymouth Superior Court, will involve dueling mental health experts and emotional testimony. If convicted of first-degree murder, Clancy faces a mandatory life sentence without parole. An acquittal due to lack of criminal responsibility would result in commitment to a state psychiatric hospital.

Clancy's attorney contends she was a loving mother overmedicated on numerous drugs, leading to "homicidal ideation." Prosecutors allege she researched how to kill and lacked connection with her children.
