Lil Durk Trial: Rapper Accused of Orchestrating Murder Plot

The Lil Durk murder-for-hire trial concluded its second week of evidence, focusing on government witnesses who testified that the rapper orchestrated a murder plot.

Prosecutors contend Durk ordered his associates to kill rival rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for King Von's 2020 death. Rondo was shot at a Los Angeles gas station in 2022, surviving the incident while his cousin, Lul Pab, was killed. Co-conspirators who have pleaded guilty to the murder have testified that Durk was behind the plot.

One shooter, Kacey "OTF Jam" Hester, described the attack as "sloppy." Keith "Flacka" Jones testified that Durk promised him $1 million for the assassination, a payment that was never made. Durk's former assistant, Kavon "Vonnie" Grant, stated he managed the 2022 shooting's logistics and kept Durk updated, noting Durk's "excited" reaction to Pab's death.

Durk's defense team, led by Drew Findling, challenged the cooperating witnesses' accounts, asserting they are fabricating testimony to shorten their own prison sentences. Findling presented recordings of Vonnie's jail calls, suggesting his trial testimony was a "time to shine" and a plan to profit from his story.

Prosecutors rested their case on Thursday, September 3. The defense called witnesses who disputed the cooperators' truthfulness, with one witness calling Vonnie "a liar and a thief." The defense also rebutted the prosecution's theory that Durk hinted at the murder plot in his music, with expert testimony suggesting lyrics were artistic expression for commercial success.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, after which the jury will begin deliberations. Durk faces potential life imprisonment if convicted on charges including conspiracy, stalking, and murder-for-hire.
