- Indictment includes a 2022 Chicago killing and a 2019 Atlanta shooting.
- Rapper denies allegations, calling the new indictment a 'pathetic pivot'.

The federal prosecution of rapper Durk Banks, known as Lil Durk, has significantly expanded with new racketeering and murder charges. A superseding indictment filed Thursday adds allegations of murder in aid of racketeering and conspiracy to commit stalking. These new charges stem from a Jan. 27, 2022, killing in Chicago, which prosecutors allege Banks, as a gang leader, orchestrated with a monetary reward. He allegedly brought $1 million in cash to a music studio afterward.
The indictment also revisits a Feb. 5, 2019, incident in Atlanta, accusing Banks of attempted murder during a dispute over a stolen car. This adds to previously charged activity, including a 2022 murder-for-hire plot in Los Angeles. Banks has pleaded not guilty to all prior indictments.
Banks' defense lawyers vehemently criticized the new indictment, calling it a "pathetic pivot" and an "acknowledgment of weakness." They argue that prosecutors are recycling old accusations in a "last-ditch effort" before the scheduled August 20, 2026, trial. The defense has challenged the validity of previous indictments, citing shifting stories from government cooperators and alleged lies regarding bounty payments.
The Los Angeles incident involved a plot to kill rapper Tyquian Terrel Bowman, allegedly due to Banks blaming him for a friend's death. Authorities reported that Bowman's cousin was killed during the ambush. Banks was arrested in October 2024 and has been held without bail since.
